Blessed is the Man!

Aarnav and Radha are the newly married couple. Their personalities are as different as Chalk and Cheese. But even after the initial honeymoon period is over, they never got any adjustment issues. Their life was like a long extended honeymoon.

Both of them are working,  and share as much load as possible, and in case if they can’t cook, they would go out and eat. Everything was going on smoothly.

But Aarnav was the one who started feeling little bored, as he was more influenced by his friend’s words. He started thinking that small fights between couples would always have the sweet endings. And when they patch up after a fight, then it would be sweeter.  So he started trying to pick up fights with Radha.

He started coming late to home, but it was met with a sweet smile from Radha and she started taking up his share of the work at home. As this didn’t result in the desired outcome,  he tried to find out what would irritate Radha.

He tried leaving a wet towel on the bed, walking in the house with muddy shoes. But this was also met with a similar reaction.

One day, he promised Radha that they would go out for a movie, but he didn’t come back from the office. Radha went out for the movie alone but never complained. He canceled the vacations in the last moment. But alas,  he had to manage the house during Radha’s vacation all alone. As this move also didn’t yield the desired fighting with Radha.

Radha’s best friend came to visit them for a couple of days. Aarnav and Radha felt very happy and entertained Radha’s friend as good hosts. But in all this commotion, also Aarnav tried to pick up fights with Radha, which were once again didn’t yield the desired results.

It was a Sunday afternoon and after a heavy lunch,  Aarnav retired to their bedroom to take a nap. Though he initially took a nap, then he woke up feeling thirsty and was about to go into the hall. But the conversation he started hearing, made him stop in the bedroom’s doorway itself.

After some time, when the doorbell rang, Aarnav went out and addressed the door and took the delivery. He told Radha and her friend that he would arrange the dinner in the starlit balcony and gave the order from Swiggy all the elaborate dishes. He had set the table for three and arranged it carefully.

Seeing the arrangements and the dinner dishes, both the friends were very surprised. But the actual surprise came to Radha when all of a sudden Aarnav went on his knees in front of her and presented a bouquet of her favorite flowers and asked for her forgiveness. There were tears of happiness in Radha’s eyes when she was cutting her favorite black forest cake. No explanations are given nor asked.

Wondering what’s the reason for this change in Aarnav? Its the conversation between Radha and her friend made Aarnav realize how Radha had lost her childhood due to the fights between her parents. What started as silly fights between the couples ended up at a serious note with divorce.  And that’s the reason why she didn’t want to start any fights among themselves.

So don’t you all agree that Aarnav is really a Blessed man as per the quote below since he need not have to explain his intentions to Radha?

“Blessed is the man who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving us wordy evidence of the fact.” – George Eliot

A Letter to my Son

Dear Son,

As you would be soon completing 6 years and turning 7, I wanted to write this letter to you, since you would be the next man in the house post your daddy.

Till date, you have both boys and girls as friends and you kids luckily didn’t shun away playing with each other. You and your friends liked playing with the kitchen set along with football. Being together was what you all wanted and the games didn’t matter for you.

But in the coming years, there would be few changes as some girls prefer sitting at home and playing whereas some girls prefer the rough play in the ground. I want you not to tease both the sets of girls. Please understand that girls also will have their own preferences and you need to respect their preferences and not to tease them regarding the same.

Also at the home, you have to start helping me with the chores just as your dad does. The chores are not divided based on your a boy or girl. All the chores are for our house only and need to be equally divided.

You might start hearing it from your other friends that chores are meant for the girls only and we need to only play outside. But please remember our weekend mornings. How your dad prepares the breakfast for you and me so that I can have that little extra time in the bed. Don’t you agree that your dad has got a point there? Both of us distribute our chores equally, isn’t it?

So whenever your friends tell you that girls are not capable of something, you have to show them the examples around you and make them understand. The change always begins with one person and let that person be you, just like how your dad was in his generation. You don’t have to wear that unnecessary mask of hardness on your face. If you feel like crying, you can very well cry. Even if people say something, you have to ignore it. As that’s the old mindset which is getting changed slowly. It will take some more time for all of us to accept it.

Always, remember this fact “An Elephant while walking on the roads, wouldn’t mind about the barking of the dogs nearby, as it knows it’s doing the right thing”. Similar way, as long as you treat boys and girls equal and respect the girls all the time, you don’t have to worry.

There is this definition of feminism, which you might not understand now, but anyways can remember is:

“A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men.” by Gloria Steinem

Today’s Media

While rearranging my library in the morning, my eyes fell upon a book, which was covered with a two-year-old newspaper.  The heading of that article reminded me of the famous quote “One reason why cats are happier than people is that they have no newspapers” by Gwendolyn Brooks

The story in the newspaper goes like this – There is this software professional, who is very much disappointed in his height.  At that time, he saw a few advertisements all over the place about a doctor who can perform height increasing operation. Without, even verifying the authenticity of those ads or of the doctor, he went and enrolled himself for that operation.

Post the operation, this man was not able to stand also, leave alone walking. Obviously, a big blame game started happening and the article I read on the book cover is all about these blame games.

In this entire episode, if at all somebody has gained, then it’s only the media. They have made money initially itself by providing the advertisements to that quack doctor, without verifying the authenticity of the service. This way they lured the patients to him. After the operation failed too, they made money by focussing on the blame games and bringing this incident to the attention of everybody.

This really shows the irresponsibility of our media. This has been proven time and again during various incidents across the nation. Some times, they went to the extent of compromising on national security.

These days, most of the media and newspapers have become toys in the manipulators with money. The white journalism has given way, to the yellow journalism and every media house has reduced to mere tabloids.  There were days when the entire nation used to get inspired by the articles published in the newspapers. Newspapers used to nurture people’s ambitions by providing the right direction too. Nowadays also the nurturing is happening but for the pervert minds and for all the negativity.

Honestly, I think now animals are better off and happier than us. As there is no yellow journalism that they are exposed to. Hope reading this article, the media houses wouldn’t see the untapped market for their ventures and end up spoiling the serenity in the animals.

Dare to be Different

Ajay is a school going kid, who is finding it very difficult to fit in the school. His parents tried changing the schools and various boards of education too. But he was not at all happy at any of these places. He would cry inconsolably before going to school every day. He just doesn’t want to sit and listen in a classroom. All the teachers have a single view about Ajay and that is – He is a very difficult kid to manage.  As he is a more intrinsic kid who hates sitting at one place, unlike other kids.

But his mom, never believed in those words as she used to see a different Ajay at home. In her view, “Kids are not difficult to manage, but they are only different and needs different techniques to manage“.

Seeing his depressed and anxiety-ridden face while going to the school and the transformation he shows after coming home made his mom do her own research about the various types of kids.  Ajay’s face would be an epitome of serenity and contentedness while he dances at home.

After a thorough analyzation, Ajay’s mom has decided to remove him from mainstream schooling and enrolled him under various dance masters, who teach different dance forms. Now Ajay has become a happy and easy going kid, who loves to attend various dance classes. He never complains even once nor misses the classes. He would attend them even when he is ill or tired.

Ajay’s dad was also impressed with this change in him, but at the same time, a bit worried about his studies aspect. Ajay’s mom mentioned to him that she would homeschool Ajay so that he would be on par with studies just like his peers too.

After 15 years:

Ajay has received the much-awaited mail from the “World of Dance” team.  He got qualified to perform the solo dance and compete with the rest of the teams across the world. He is the only Indian to be qualified for the solo events. He started immediately discussing the type of dance he can perform on the stage with his mentors (mom and dad).   They had witnessed his journey through various dance forms and are still amazed at his talent of clubbing various western and traditional Indian dance forms into a single event with ease.

Ajay performed his fusion dance form on the “World of Dance” platform and have won just not accolades but the first prize too. The glow in his face, while he was dancing on the stage, is a must watch. His face was radiating serenity and contentedness as he is doing what he loves most and will keep doing the same.

All this is possible because of his mother, who has understood the meaning of the famous saying  “The function of freedom is to free somebody’s soul” and she not only freed Ajay’s soul but his time too from the mainstream schooling.  She understood that it’s OK to be different than the crowd and fought the required battles on behalf of Ajay so that Ajay could concentrate on dancing.

Miracles happen in this fastpaced life too!

Sameer and Saranya are the current days IT couple. Though their names and their professions match with each other, their outlook towards life and social media is completely different.

Sameer is more of a traditional and family oriented person. He is not a gadget freak and uses them due to the necessity of this fastpaced life.  Whereas, Saranya, is completely into gadgets and social media too. Along with the gadgets, she got addicted to social media too. She keeps sharing her updates on social media very regularly and has a lot of friends from the virtual world.   They both have a sweet little daughter, and she has just started her play school.  After the play school, she would be dropped at the daycare near their house by the playschool van itself.

Their weekends are always filled with outings and fun activities which Saranya, keeps sharing to her friends in the virtual world. Sameer always tried to stop Saranya posting updates about all their day to day activities, but she never used to listen to what Sameer was saying.

One day, out of a blue moon, Sameer got a call from their kid’s daycare facility. They wanted to report back to Sameer that their kid has not yet reached the daycare and the concerned van driver who drops their kid phone number is coming as switched off.  Panicked Sameer, informed Saranya and called up his friend Ajay, who is in the police department too, to report about this incident. In the meantime, Saranya gets a call from an unknown number.

When she had picked up the phone, the person on the other end started demanding huge money from them to release their kid from his captivity. In the meantime, the van driver was found unconscious near their house itself. So somebody apparently knocked off the van driver and took away the kid.

Hearing this situation, immediately Ajay reported this incident to the cyber-crime team as he knows more about Saranya and her obsession. This police officer could judge based on his experience that this threat should have stemmed out of Saranya’s habits.

After tracking the number from which Saranya received the call and filtering all her social media friends, the cyber-crime team could narrow down the possible suspects to two people. While following them diligently, within a couple of hours, they could identify where the baby is and could rescue her.  This was nothing short of a miracle, as both Sameer and Saranya could get back their sweet little baby unharmed.  And this has happened mainly due to the personal connections which Sameer had with his childhood friend who has joined the police department.

The next day,  when everyone was relaxing at Sameer’s place, Ajay and Sameer started talking to Saranya about the ill effects of social media. She told them she was just following the current day’s trend or convention. “Conventionality is not Morality” replied Sameer. Though he also uses social media, he uses it to only connect to friends and colleagues but never shares his personal details there. As Saranya has shared all her personal details including kid’s school name and how she gets dropped off at the daycare, it was easier for the culprits to play this mischievous game with them.

So the lesson learned for Saranya today is that we should follow the trends with caution and not all trends are correct. We need to judge which suits us and follow it based on our convenience.
